What Are Wheel Bolts?
Wheel bolts (sometimes called lug bolts) are fasteners that secure a vehicle’s wheel to its hub.
They thread directly into the hub and hold the wheel firmly in place while the car is moving. In some vehicles, wheel studs + wheel nuts are used instead — but many modern cars use wheel bolts.

The front axle nut (often part of a hub/drive shaft assembly) is a large fastener that secures the front axle or CV (constant‑velocity) drive shaft to the wheel hub assembly, especially on trucks, SUVs, and 4WD vehicles like the Mahindra Scorpio.
When this nut design includes a pin (or cotter pin / locking pin), it means the nut is secured against loosening under vibration and torque by passing a pin through a hole in the axle shaft and nut. The pin prevents the nut from rotating and backing off, making the connection safer under heavy driving loads.
